City of Austin Special Deer Hunt
Informational meeting at the Nature Center is August 7 at 5:00 pm
With confirmation from the DNR, the city is holding a special deer bow hunt again this fall to help keep the deer population at a healthy level.
The hunt runs from October 1 (October 15 for Nature Center and Todd Park) through December 31.
Hunters are working with the Nature Center to ensure that visitors may safely use the trails while the hunt is in progress. All hunters were required to pass a proficiency test and complete their bowhunter education course before applying to participate in the hunt. Deer stands must be located 100 feet from trails and 150 feet from structures.
- Proficiency Archery Test : August 20th from 5 pm – 8 pm or August 30th from 9 am – 12:30 pm.
- Located at the Cedar River Archery Club.
- To participate in the proficiency test please bring $5 cash or check made out to the Cedar River Archery Club.
- Application Deadline: September 12
- Draw for Hunting Locations: September 15 at 3:00 pm at City Hall
- Hunt Begins: October 1st for all city locations except the Nature Center and Todd Park.
- Nature Center and Todd Park hunt begins October 15
