Cedar River Astronomy Club Meeting

The Cedar River Astronomy Club’s mission is to connect people with interest in astronomy and give hands on experience exploring the night sky while helping with outreach at the Sola Fide Observatory.
The Cedar River Astronomy Club is open to all ages, skill, and interest levels. It doesn’t matter if you’re a novice, or an expert, if you own a telescope, or just like the night sky, all are welcome!
The club is free to join.

Sola Fide Observatory Open House

Get away from the city lights and join us under the stars at Sola Fide Observatory. Located off property south of town. Enjoy the stars, moon, or galaxies from one of our two telescopes. There is no heat in the building and you may need to wait outside.
This event is weather/cloud dependent. If there is more than 50% cloud cover, we cannot run the telescope and the event will be cancelled. Please watch our social media for updates.

Friends and Volunteer Appreciation
Start Mushrooming with Stan Tekiela

Thank you for being a valued member of our Nature Center. As a way of saying thanks, we invite you to join us for a free program with Stan Tekiela.
Naturalist, wildlife photographer and author/writer Stan Tekiela is the originator of the popular state-specific field guides such as Birds of (state name) Field Guide, Wildflowers of (state name), and Trees of (state name). Holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural History from the University of Minnesota and as an active professional naturalist for more than 40 years, Stan studies and photographs wildlife throughout the United States and has received various national and regional awards for his books and photographs.
About the Program: The fun and enjoyable way to learn how to forage for wild mushrooms and not kill yourself. Stan makes this serious topic fun and interesting. You too can safely get out and collect wild edible mushrooms without fear. Learn the safe seven mushrooms and how to safely collect, cook and store.

Planetarium Open House
Saturday, May 3; 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Free Open House; Interpretive Center Classroom
Don’t like staying up late to look at the stars? Get an up close look at stars, constellations, planets, and much more from the comfort of our indoor inflatable planetarium. The planetarium is a smaller space that will be fairly dark. You will need to take your shoes off and sit on the floor. It is wheelchair accessible.
Throughout the open house, Nature Center staff will give multiple 15 minute presentations. When you come into the Nature Center, please stop by the front desk to get a free ticket for a time slot. Space is limited.
