Thank you to the Friends of the Hormel Nature Center, this bus trip is open to everyone! Join Nature Center staff on a coach bus trip to Shakopee and Chaska to visit Hocokata Ti and the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.

To be paid when you register to hold your spot:

• If you are a current Friends member, the cost is $20 per person.
• If you are not a current Friends member, the cost will be $70 per person. 

There may be extra costs associated with this trip; such as:

• Lunch will be available for purchase at the Arboretum.
• Any food or gift items you would like. 

Please register by contacting the nature center and then stopping out to pay your ticket fees. Limited to 50 people.

Hocokata Ti: Check out the new exhibit Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake to learn about the Mdewakanton Dakota people and their history. You will also get a guided tour of their collections at Hoċokata Ṫi. Hoċokata Ṫi’s private collection consists of a broad range of objects and materials representing over 130 cultures throughout the United States, Northern Mexico, and Canada.  The total number of objects in the collection is 10,476 and growing, with the vast majority being archaeological objects. The collection also includes basketry, pottery, beaded items, regalia, artwork, and more.
University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum: We will partake in the Dakota Sacred Hoop Walk in the Harrison Sculture Garden. The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is the largest, most diverse and complete horticultural site in Minnesota with an almost 100 year history. It currently encompasses 1200 acres which protects its surrounding watershed. The Arboretum’s grounds hold many specific collections of plants including iris, hostas, wildflowers, dahlias, clematis, grasses, and cultivated and hardy shrub roses. There are many special focus areas such as the home demonstration gardens, perennial and annual gardens, a rock garden and a Japanese garden.

Schedule:
8:00 a.m.: Bus loads for departure from the Nature Center
10:00 a.m.: Arrive at Hocokata Ti
12:00 p.m.: Depart Hocokata Ti
12:30 p.m.: Arrive at University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum
4:00 p.m.: Load bus for departure to Austin
6:00 p.m.: Back in Austin
